The OMusic Project is funded by ArtsMemphis ETC Grant (Engagement builds Communities). It is a collaboration project of PRIZM Ensemble and Visible Community Music School. The intent is to help revitalize the community through music education and exposure. The project will take place at Melrose High School and Orange Mound Outreach Ministries, and the project will culminate in collaborative performances in Orange Mound community
Visible Community Music School
Visible Community Music School is a non-sectarian outreach program of Visible Music College.
The mission of Visible Community Music School is to provide accessible and affordable quality music training for everyone. Upper-level college students and recent music college graduates provide quality music instruction in private and group lessons, guided ensemble experience, and host public concerts to promote music education. The school launched Fall 2011 and currently serves over 100 students a year.
Orange Mound Outreach Ministries
Orange Mound Outreach Ministries is a “Taking Our Children Back” program that targets unchurched youth in the Orange Mound Community. Rev. Reginald J. Tucker, Director, and Mrs. Mary Tucker, Program Director, are the leaders and alongside them there are 4 adult volunteers and 4 youth volunteers that have come through the ministry. They strive to teach youth, respect, self-control, and education. OMOM teaches them how to walk the Christian walk in their everyday lives. OMOM focuses on equipping children with the tools to participate in everyday life. OMOM offers homework help, tutoring, real talk groups for boys and girls, youth church, which includes skits, choir, and praise dancing. OMOM also offers club nights, frog club, discipleship groups, bible fun groups, bible study groups, movie nights, camping, and social outings. Located at 845 Marechalneil Street, they are the only structured, faith based organization for children that is set up to cater as a safe haven for youth in Orange Mound.
